If assuming the victim role is limited to one or two team members, it is most likely a personal issue. If all the team members act this way, it typically is a much more severe situation. This form of complaining often happens in organizations that formally adopted Scrum but do not practice it.

Remedy: When team members play the role of victim, they make themselves unable to resolve the source of conflict. Nevertheless, merely dismissing the issue as misguided behavior of professional people won’t solve the problem.

In the case of individuals, I suggest reaching out to them to understand the underlying motives for their way of communication and coaching them on how to overcome their issues.

If the whole team is assuming this behavior, a simple individual or group coaching won’t help. (Neither will joining your teammates and becoming sarcastic along with them.) As an organizational matter, consider reaching out to the leadership level and asking for their support to help the team turn around and accept their responsibilities.
